Pao attorney calls Kleiner’s demand to recover $1M in trial costs “grossly excessive and unreasonable”

Today Ellen Pao’s lawyers responded to Kleiner Perkins attempts to recover nearly a million dollars in trial costs from the interim reddit CEO and former Kleiner partner.

In a motion filed this morning, attorney Alan Exelrod characterizes the amount sought by Kleiner as “grossly excessive and unreasonable.” He asks that the Court deny any award of costs and, failing that, remove “unnecessary and unreasonable costs, including trial transcripts and excessive expert fees”.

In their motion, Kleiner claims that $ 864,680.25 of the total arise from expert witness costs.

Today’s motion leaves the door open for Ellen Pao to appeal the unfavorable ruling reached earlier this spring. Kleiner offered to drop its motion for court costs if Pao agreed not to appeal.

Sometimes an Unreasonable Boss is Helping You Challenge Yourself

If you’ve had a job, you’ve probably had a manager who asks too much of you. You have limited resources, but they want more than you can handle. Sure, they’re often difficult. Other times they might be helping you increase your skills.

The Muse shares some ideas on how to cope with a boss who asks too much. The first thing they suggest is to “Do an Insecurity Check” and see if there’s a good reason for what seems to be bad behavior:

If your boss is pushing you to do more and you’re feeling overwhelmed, first ask yourself why. Is it because you really can’t do the work? Or is it because it’s something new that you’re not too comfortable with yet?

Figuring out where the stress is coming from is a good first step. And if you discover the real reason for your anxiety is simply insecurity or inexperience, give yourself a chance and take your best shot.

If the problem isn’t your insecurity, you’ll need to deal with the problem. Check out the link for tips on how to deal with a manager’s unrealistic expectations.
