Holy cow. ProPublica’s top editor’s salary more than three times higher than total online donations

Money wordsAccording to the New Yorker, Jill Abramson was able to get her New York Times salary up to $ 525k before she was booted from her job. But that was still over $ 30k less than her predecessor, Bill Keller.

Still, it turns out if Abramson wanted to match — or comfortably beat — Keller’s salary, a better approach would have been to quit the Times and head over to the “non-profit” journalism sector.

After all, Abramson’s $ 525k Times salary was a full $ 45k less than that of Paul Steiger, the editor of “non profit” outfit ProPublica. In 2012, according to ProPublica’s annual report, Steiger made a whopping $ 570k — that’s more than three times the total amount of online donations received by the organization that whole year.
