How to see museums’ weird and rare treasures for free this September




A full-sized car made from pop-can pull-tabs. Taylor Swift’s concert costumes. Intricate artwork made from buckets-o-bugs.

These are just some of the objects you can see — for free — during Smithsonian magazine’s 11th nationwide Museum Day Live! on Saturday, Sept. 26.

The event is designed for those who balk at entry fees that can sometimes exceed $ 20 per person, and for those who need an extra nudge to willingly enter a museum.

More than 1,300 halls of fame, art and history shrines, historic houses and other attractions around the country are offering complimentary admission — for two people — to anyone who presents a downloaded voucher. Read more…
