Facebook Commerce Provider Ecwid Tops 500K Merchants, Closes $5M Funding Round


EcwidStores650Facebook commerce provider Ecwid announced that it has topped 500,000 registered merchants worldwide and closed a $ 5 million series-B investment round.

The funding round was led by iTech Capital, with participation from series-A funding provider Runa Capital. Ecwid said the money will go toward enhancing its mobile and social commerce products, expanding its global distribution partner network, and bolstering its sales and marketing teams.

The company also announced plans to integrate its ecommerce solution with the point-of-sale systems of small and midsized businesses.

In addition, iTech Capital Managing Partner Gleb Davidyuk was added to Ecwid’s board of directors.

Ecwid Founder and CEO Ruslan Fazlyev said in a release announcing the merchant total milestone and funding round:

My quest to democratize ecommerce started in 2000 when I founded X-Cart, the first PHP ecommerce platform. Online store builders have not changed much since then, using the same “dedicated ecommerce site” approach. But Ecwid was engineered to be a game-changer, making it possible to add a full-featured store to any existing website, while preserving its design. It is exciting to see this vision come to fruition, and with strong partners like iTech and Runa, we look forward to accelerating our growth and continuing to improve our product.

F8: Ecwid Adds Autofill With Facebook; JackThreads Tests New Feature


AutofillWithFacebook650Facebook made some announcements about its Autofill with Facebook mobile payments feature at its F8 global developer conference in San Francisco Wednesday, making the feature available to Facebook commerce provider Ecwid, as well as testing an extension of Autofill with Facebook with test partner JackThreads, TechCrunch reported.

Pilot partners men’s apparel site JackThreads and photo-book provider Mosaic on the shopping application side, along with payment processors PayPal, Stripe, and Braintree, began testing Autofill with Facebook last September.

The feature causes users who have stored their billing information with the social network to be prompted to “Check out faster with Facebook” when they attempt to complete their transactions, and an “autofill your info” button allows them to examine their payment details on the social network, as well as to select their shipping addresses. Only the last four digits of users’ credit-card numbers are visible.

Facebook announced at F8 that Ecwid’s 450,000 or so merchants can now easily integrate Autofill with Facebook, TechCrunch reported, adding that the social network is testing a tweak with JackThreads in which users who have clicked on mobile ads with promo codes will have those promo codes auto-filled during the check-out stage of transactions.
