Learn How to Refill a Disposable Extended-Reach Lighter With This Video

Share

Extended-reach lighters are great for lighting barbecues, campfires, and candles, but they can get expensive. This video explains how to open one up and replace the empty lighter fluid reservoir so you can save a few dollars.

This video from youtuber lvl3talhead shows that the lighter fluid reservoir inside of a disposable BIC multi-purpose lighter is essentially just a normal cigarette lighter. Using a screwdriver, remove the single screw holding the two sides of the plastic casing together, and then carefully break the seal along the line where the two halves meet. You should now be able to pry open the back and remove the reservoir. Look familiar? Grab a new BIC cigarette lighter, remove and trade the fork, spring, and jet components as instructed, and place the new lighter into the plastic casing. Now it should light good as new. A four-pack of this type of disposable lighter can go for $ 16-$ 20, or as high as $ 6 apiece if you buy them on their own. A dozen BIC cigarette lighters, on the other hand, can be had for less than $ 15. If your budget is tight, or you’re just trying to be as frugal as possible, this is a super easy way to save a few bucks.
