Rumor has it that Jena Malone will play a female Robin, Carrie Kelley,  in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Warner Bros. nor Jena Malone has confirmed the role as of now.

Allegedly, local news station WILX-10 in Detroit interviewed an extra for the movie at Michigan State University. A scene involving Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and Lex Luthor was being filmed there this week. The extra said that the character Robin will be a female.

The speculation goes further after Variety noted that Malone “has been seen on the WB set and at recent movie premieres sporting a new red hairdo.”

The Hollywood Reporter has also said Jena Malone is playing a “mystery role” in the movie.

Jena Malone, 29, has been featured in Stepmom, Donnie Darko, Saved!, Sucker Punch, and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

The character Carrie Kelley debuted as the female Robin, Girl Wonder in Frank Miller’s seminal The Dark Knight Returns.

The film doesn’t come out until March 25, 2016, so the speculation that Jena Malone will be a female Robin will be “alleged” and “reported” for a while.

Even if Jena Malone’s red hair isn’t for playing a female Robin and someone else gets the role, fans have mixed feelings that Batman’s sidekick could be the Girl Wonder in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Some are excited and others aren’t into the idea at all.

Dustin Fritschel, Senior Editor for The Batman Universe website, told The Independent, “Jena Malone as Robin could be an interesting take on the direction that Warner Bros. could take with Batman in the future cinematic universe. Many fans have stated that while the character Carrie Kelley as Robin for this run in the bat films can work, some think that one of the other Robins should have their shot at being in the films before hers. The controversy doesn’t seem to be about a female playing the character as much as it is about a character that is less as iconic in the role of Robin.”

What do you think about Jena Malone, or another actress, playing a female Robin in the film?
