In Three Words: Sleek, Groomed, Sophisticated

The Lowdown: Who knew that nestled within the Hilton Hotel in Central London, lay this gem of a bar. Forget about the whizzing lights and flashing store fronts as you sink into a plush armchair in this oasis of calm and choose from one of the specially crafted cocktails. Table service is de rigueur, so all you have to worry about is hoping any stresses of the day melt away.

The cocktail menu is a list of clever and exciting concoctions, where Ruba Signatures sit alongside Ice Sorbet Cocktails and more glitzy champagne numbers. The Twisted Classics are certainly worth a peruse – inventions like the Rum Old Fashioned turns this favourite on its head with an exotic punch, and the Ruba Mary is a must for any fans of the spicy morning-saviour.

Your Plus One: Bring your stressed or slightly frazzled co-worker/shopping-partner/pal – usher them away from the busy streets of the city into this stylish sanctuary of cocktail delights.

The Decor: Sleek and chic is the order of the day at TwoRuba. Caramel and hazelnut tones look classically superb alongside the glimmering golden fittings and more modern, contemporary lines. Low sofas and wing-backed chairs give the place a designer feel while also being incredibly comfortable.

Cocktail Highlights: The City Martini was a refreshing and slightly floral take on a Hendricks G&T, using elderflower, cucumber and lime for something that cleared the palate and got us hankering for more. The Orient Express was another winner, combining traditional espresso with the subtle berry notes of Chambord and the delectable hazelnut smoothness of Frangelico.

Something to Soak Up the Booze: The menu is definitely something that needs to be experienced, and offers a number of small plates all using ingredients sourced from nearby Borough Market. These scrummy bar snacks take their influence from all around the world and have a special TwoRuba twist – our absolute favourites were the sweet, sticky but firry King prawns flash fried with garlic Yuzu emulsion, and the bite size but surprisingly substantial Pulled pork sliders with chili apple slaw.

Burning a Hole? One of the classy cocktails at TwoRuba will only set you back £10 – a steal for a city central spot, especially given the care and attention that goes into making them. And with the food averaging around £7 for a plate, this is the kind of place you can imagine visiting for ‘just one’ and find yourself still relaxing hours later…

Overall: Finding a spot in the city that isn’t overcrowded or over-done can be tricky – which is why TwoRuba is such a treasure. Glamorous, sophisticated and aesthetically gorgeous, it reminds us of a Bond Girl – and we’re also rather partial to their martinis too!
