Malaysian police arrest three people connected to Bangkok bombing

SINGAPORE — Malaysian police authorities have arrested three people suspected of being connected to the deadly Bangkok shrine bombing last month that killed 20 people.

Malaysian police chief Khalid Abu Bakar told the press on Monday that two Malaysians and one Pakistani have been detained, after Thai authorities tipped them off.

One of the three suspects is a woman, although the police did not specify which. Khalid also said that they were arrested several days ago, but did not say when exactly.

The police don’t think that the main suspect is amongst the three, however. “We are not sure whether the main suspect is in this country, we don’t know, we don’t have a real evidence to show that he’s in this country so we are investigating it,” said the chief. Read more…

Russian authorities arrest 2 suspects in Boris Nemtsov murder probe

KIEV, Ukraine — Russian authorities have arrested two men on suspicion of killing opposition leader Boris Nemtsov, state media reported the head of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) Alexander Bortnikov as saying on Saturday.

Phone taps and evidence left in the getaway car led investigators on Saturday to Zaur Dadayev and Anzor Gubashev, “from the North Caucasus,” according to Bortnikov, whose comments were carried by the state’s Rossiya-24 television channel

“The necessary operational and investigative procedures are continuing,” the FSB head said, adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin had been informed of the suspects’ detention. Putin has called Nemtsov’s killing a “disgrace.” Read more…
