When you need to access your computer when you’re away from home, or troubleshoot someone else’s computer without going to their house, a good remote desktop tool is a lifesaver. One of our previous favorites, LogMeIn, is going premium, so it’s time to talk alternatives. This week we want to hear which tool you’re turning to.
Of course, just because LogMeIn is moving from a free to a paid approach doesn’t mean it’s not a great tool—but let’s be honest, there are plenty of other alternatives on the market that don’t cost anything and work just as well. For this week’s Hive Five, let’s hear some of your best alternatives in the discussions below!
Let’s hear your vote in the discussions below! To cast your vote, follow these guidelines:
- Follow this format for your vote, including the bold print. If you don’t, it won’t be counted:

Vote: [BEST REMOTE DESKTOP TOOL]
Why: Why do you love this remote desktop or troubleshooting tool above all others? Make your case! Try to keep it to a single paragraph, maybe two. Let us know why you think it’s the one you use or recommend to others, and why you use it, or even pay for it (if it’s a paid product.)
- Don’t duplicate nominations! Instead, if someone’s nominated your pick, star (recommend) it to give it a boost, and reply with your story instead.
- Please don’t leave non-entry, direct comments on this post. They’ll just get pushed down. Save your stories for others’ submissions!
If you’re not sure what we mean, just check out the nominations by our writers below. We’ll give you a head start, and they should all be in the proper format, so you can just follow our lead.
