Many jobs aren’t confined to a specific industry. You could be a network administrator, for example, in the education industry, in retail, or just about any other industry. How might your salary differ if you worked in a different industry? FlowingData’s interactive chart can give you an idea.

The data is based on the Bureau of Labor Statistics for jobs in 2013. The chart shows the number of people employed for a selected occupation in that industry and the median salary as well as salary range for that industry. You can hover over the data to get more information.

The ranges can be pretty substantial. Across 87 industries, administrative service managers’ median salaries range fromjust $ 19,290 to at least $ 187,201.

While some occupations, like physician or college professor, are in set industries, if yours is more flexible, you might want to look at which industries hire and pay the most for your next job move.
