Today I have an infographic from my new infographic design website all about the most important social media moments in 2013. Here is a break down of what is in the infographic from January through to December.
January: Twitter introduces Vine, Facebook announces Graph Search and Google+ takes #2 spot for most active users.
February: Original Harlem Shake went viral, 38% of Super Bowl ads included hashtags visually displayed and only 7% integrated Facebook URLs.
March: University of Florida offers the 1st graduate social media masters program and Pope Francis was named Facebook’s most talked about individual in the World.
April: PSY Gentleman M/V is the most watched Youtube video of 2013, Vine is the most downloaded app and Linkedin buys Pulse.
May: 30% of Facebook’s Q1 advertising revenue comes from mobile devices, Nielson reveals that Youtube reaches more 18-34 year olds than any cable network, 72% of online adults use social networking sites and images with multiple dominant colours have 3.25 times more repins.
June: Social media spam rose 355% in the 1st half of 2013, Instagram video launched and Vine sharing dropped nearly 40%.
July: Lea Michele got the most retweets of 2013 and the Syrian government started using Instagram.
August: Facebook reveals the government issued 25,600 requests for user data and Miley Cyrus got 306,100 tweets per minute at the VMAs.
September: Ylvis – The Fox (What does the fox say?) is Youtube’s #1 most trending video, mobile makes up more than 25% of Youtube’s global watch time and SnapChat users are sharing 350 million photos per day.
October: 38% of unique visits to Linkedin services were via mobile devices and 17 million people generated 45 million interactions on Facebook the 3rd day into government shutdown.
November: Twitter IPO opened at $ 26/share, SnapChat founder turned down acquisition offers and “Selfie” was named Oxford Dictionaries word of the year.
December: Instagram released direct messages and Beyonce sold 365,000 copies of her album in US on first day.
