The mobile web is where business is happening, so if your business doesn’t have a presence on the mobile web you are missing out. The vast majority- 79%- of smartphone owners use their mobile devices to make purchases both large and small. An even greater percentage rely on their mobile devices to make dining decisions when they travel. The translation- if you want to get tourists into your restaurant, you have to have a presence on the mobile web.
Currently only 16% of restaurants have mobile apps, though 30% of restaurants that have mobile apps say they increased the volume of their sales. Because of this, half of quick serve restaurants plan to spend money on customer-facing technology, and 53% say that mobile apps are a top priority for 2014.
Social media is also having an impact on business, with 71% of retailers reporting a big impact on their business. Retailers are also reporting that mobile and online shopping, mobile and online coupons, and use of in-store mobile technology by associates are impacting their bottom line in a major way.
