SPEED TO SHAPE WITH THESE 10 EXPERT TIPS

Are you on your way to losing those extra inches? Add in a few of these fabulous tips by wellbeing expert James Duigan, Founder of Bodyism, and you might just be able to fast track your way to that perfect shape.

  1. Try avoiding alcohol like the plague – It honestly is your worst enemy if you are trying to get your body back in shape! Not only it will make you feel sluggish and bloated but will also reduce your body’s ability to burn fat.
  2. Avoid low fat foods which often have lots of hidden sugar. Make sure you fill your fridge with plenty of green vegetables for fibre and lean protein. That way you’ll be laughing your way to a beautiful body.
  3. Try to eat five healthy meals a day, two of which should be smaller snacks. Healthy snacking ensures you don’t overeat when you have the main meals and will also help you to speed up your metabolism. Avoid the sugar packed treats and choose instead raw nuts, turkey slices, berries, sliced vegetables or Bodyism’s Protein Excellence (RRP: £70 available from www.bodyism.com)
  4. Reduce your stress. Excess stress can lead to an inability to lose weight, sleep or get fit.  Manage your stress by eating correctly, exercising, and finding activities such as yoga, pilates or even a massage and you’ll feel 100 times better. Instead of that bottle of wine that helps you sleep try a cup of chamomile tea or even a BodySerenity.
  5. Brush Up! Every single morning, before your shower or bath, dry body brush yourself all over, using a decent body brush. Start at your feet and brush in light sweeps in the direction of your heart. This is quick, cheap, will get your blood pumping and help to reduce the appearance of cellulite. Buy a brush today and get into the habit!
  6. Detox as you soak in Epsom salts. These are full of magnesium and encourage the body to shed toxins quickly. The salts also boost your digestion and reduce cellulite. Pour two cupfuls into a hot bath and soak in it for at least 20 minutes up to three times a week. You can get Epsom salts from pharmacies and health-food shops.
  7. Our bodies are designed to move, so move every day. It doesn’t have to be strenuous, but look to get variety into your week such as a yoga class, a brisk walk, a Pilates class etc. Don’t just think about exercising as something you are doing right now or as a way to look better in a bikini. Embrace it as part of your life and who you are.
  8. Before lunch, find a private place and do 20-40 squats as this will fire up your metabolism before your about to eat.
  9. If you want to see serious results in just a matter of months try breaking your daily exercise routine into three, 10 minute daily sessions – morning, mid-day and evening. Each session needs to consist of intensive exercises that work all the key muscles in the body- great exercises to incorporate include lunging, squatting and push-ups.  I also recommend using one of my exercise bands (available from the Bodyism website) to help supercharge the toning potential of your workout.
  10. Cardio alone is extremely unlikely to get you a flat tummy. The fastest way to burn fat is with resistance circuits using AMG movements (all muscle groups). In the long run, cardio can even lead to the “skinny-fat syndrome” which is not a good look at all and without the muscle tone your body will never look or feel as good as it should.
