An army of hermit crabs carpeted a beach in St. John last month and a videographer captured incredible footage of the crustacean crush.
Steve Simonsen’s friend alerted him to the migration and he wasted no time scooping up his Canon EOS 5D Mark ll and a Canon XA-10 and heading straight to the seafront. Simonsen’s footage shows what he described as “millions and millions” of hermit crabs participating in their annual mass movement.
Imagine planning your Caribbean day of fun in the sun on the same day the hermit crab population decides to make a run — or scurry — for it. Sorry if nature ruined beach day.
