No disruptions: California’s landmark new cannabis legislation aims at a smooth transition

“California just leapfrogged back out in front as an innovator in cannabis public policy, but it probably won’t set in for a few months, when the dust settles,” said Hezekiah Allen, executive director of the Emerald Growers Association.

Allen was referring to the legislative package recently passed in Sacramento with the support of the Governor’s Office, which for the first time provides a basis for legal, regulated commerce in cannabis in the state.

The new laws largely avoid the civil rights and end-user issues around legalization–those are expected to be decided by voter initiative next fall…
