New Beta Version Of Facebook For Android Addresses Several Bugs


Facebook announced the release of an updated Facebook for Android beta version 3.5 in a post in the Facebook for Android Beta Testers group.

The social network detailed bugs that will be corrected in this release, adding that not all users will receive all updates at launch. Corrected bugs include those causing:

  • The app to crash while using messages in the background.
  • The app to crash when navigating away from Nearby.
  • Cover photos to display in low resolution for some users.
  • Some News Feed photos to disappear when tapping to view full-screen.
  • Blank stories in News Feed when viewing multiphoto feed stories.
  • Blank photos in News Feed for some users.
  • Some notifications to be cleared on upgrade.
  • Gingerbread loading icon to be used on ICS operating system and above.
  • The like/comment/share icons to be blurry on HDPI devices.
  • Memory leak when using stickers in messages.
  • The menu button to overlap with likes/comments on photos.
  • Various other crashes.
  • Translation problems.

The post also offered users a section on how to upgrade their applications:

  • We highly recommend you turn on automatic updates.
  • Uninstall the Facebook app on your mobile device and install the latest version from the Play Store.
  • If the update does not appear in the Play Store, you may need to restart your mobile device and then uninstall and reinstall the Facebook app.
  • Still having trouble? Follow the troubleshooting guidelines in the pinned post at the top of the group to make sure you’re a beta-tester.
  • Note: The new beta app will still appear as version 3.5 after downloading.
