‘National Geographic’ Dominates Publishers in October in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram Actions


NationalGeographicCoverImage650National Geographic blew away the competition in October according to the latest rankings of publishers’ actions generated on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram by social media benchmarking and audience engagement analysis company Shareablee.

The total of 67.812 million actions generated for October by National Geographic dwarfed the 13.258 million produced by second-place finisher The Huffington Post, according to Shareablee, which also found that:

  • Billboard posted the largest month-to-month growth among the top 10 on Shareablee’s list, at 30 percent, followed by Entertainment Weekly (26 percent).
  • The two categories with the most actions generated on Instagram during October were fashion and style (7.1 million) and entertainment (3.3 million).
  • The top three entertainment publishers across all platforms were BuzzFeed (11.04 million), Billboard (8.93 million) and People (7.37 million).
  • The top three general news publishers across all platforms were HuffPost (13.26 million), Time (4.8 million) and The New York Times (4.76 million).
  • The top three fashion and style publishers across all platforms were Vogue (5.25 million), Harper’s Bazaar (3.92 million) and Cosmopolitan (3.44 million).
  • Sports was the fastest-growing category, at 315 percent, and the top title in the category in terms of growth was Sports Illustrated at 80 percent.
  • The second-fastest-growing category, auto (75 percent), was led by Yahoo Autos (1,363 percent), Car and Driver (65 percent) and Automobile Magazine (54 percent).
  • The 74 percent month-to-month growth by the third-fastest-growing category, fashion and style, was driven by Yahoo Shine (191 percent) and Refinery29 (55 percent).
