Japanese Dance Group Brings Performance to a Whole New Level Using Light and Animation

Share

It’s common for performances to be enhanced by special lighting – but how often is light made an integral part of the show? Directed by automobile-designer-turned-visual-artist Nobuyuki Hanabusa, the Japanese dance group enra combines modern animation and lighting to create immersive, one-of-a-kind performances. The group’s dancers come from backgrounds as diverse as kung fu, acrobatics, ballet, juggling, rhythmic gymnastics and animation dance and push themselves to take dance performance to new levels. “We wanted to challenge different ways of expression and to create more complex work with a different outlook on the world,” the group writes on its site.

Check out some awesome screencaps from enra’s recent “pleiades” performance below, and find more of their videos on YouTube.
