Google Street View Adds Florida Keys Imagery

Google’s next Street View project isn’t on the street. The company is once again expanding its collection of underwater imagery, this time with the coral reefs of the Florida Keys.

The search company already has hundreds of thousands of images of reefs and other underwater features — but the Florida Keys project will be Google’s first round of images from U.S. waters.

SVII surveys the Coral Nursery – Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, Florida

The project is part of Google’s ongoing partnership with the Catlin Seaview Survey, whose staff were in the water off the Florida Keys last week. They were training NOAA officials in the use of the panoramic cameras so they could help with documenting the reefs. Read more…
