About a year ago, Javier Vinsome noticed that he was having a hard time engaging his audiences. As Diversity Advisor for the Alberta Accountants Unification Agency, Javier gives a lot of presentations to international audiences for whom English is a second language. Javier was confident in his presentation material and delivery, but his talks weren’t making the kind of impact he hoped they would.
“I knew my presentation content was good, but for a 45-minute or hour-long presentation, I would lose most of my audience. At the 22-minute mark, they would start to tune out,” Javier remembers. In search of a solution to this disengagement, he came to a simple conclusion: “The text-heavy PowerPoint format was a problem.”
