Changing the World Through Sex with Cindy Gallop

Cindy Gallop, founder and CEO of MakeLoveNotPorn, curated a phenomenally diverse series of conversations, demonstrations, and panels all concerned with the way we talk about, think about, and experience sexuality today. She recently hosted the panel What Women Want: An Honest Conversation On Sex. All participants in the series were there for a common reason — as Cindy herself put it, “We’re here because we all believe in an open and healthier dialogue about sex in the real world.”

That dialogue manifested itself around three main points: how we experience sexual content in our own personal lives, the struggles that businesses in the industry face, and the way we talk about sex with one another.

The first hour was a rapid-fire Sex Talk Shark Tank, in which entrepreneurs and startups with involvement in the adult sector pitched their ideas to investors who were willing to approach this type of content with a welcoming and open mind. From a vibrator that reacts to how you’re holding it to an app that makes women’s sexual education fun and friendly with games and a quirky attitude, the products there were demonstrated unanimously sought to help customers enjoy happier and healthier sex lives.

On the matter of challenges those brands face in the current business environment, angel investor and Pipeline Fellows founder and CEO Natalia Oberti Noguera said, “The more diversity in venture capital investing, the more diversity we will see in market products, which will more accurately reflect the makeup of the entire market.”

Despite the significant obstacles faced by brands in the adult content space, Cindy and a panel of entrepreneurs remained optimistic that their efforts are enacting significant change for good. Cindy said, “When you conceive of a venture in established socially acceptable boundaries, you just serve to reinforce them. I refuse to do that.”
