Just a week last the release of its huge trailer, Marvel is still full of surprises. According to Idris Elba, he will be making an appearance in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron, as well as Loki.
The actor, who played Heimdall in 2013’s Thor, broke the news to the Telegraph. “I’m in Avengers,” he said. “And I’m doing a scene with Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston.”
This means Elba will be reprising his role as Heimdall and Tom Hiddleston will be back as Loki. The two haven’t appeared in any press materials for the film, though it was already known that Hemsworth will be returning as Thor.
Marvel’s Kevin Feige previously confirmed that Loki will be featured prominently in the upcoming third installment in the Thor series, “Ragnarok,” as well as the both parts of “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Confirmed during the past week’s Marvel event, Thor’s step-brother and archenemy was basically a guarantee for the next “Thor” movie, last seen in the “Thor: The Dark World” sitting upon the throne in Asgard, disguised as Odin. In “Ragnarok,” Loki is set to unleash chaos in Asgard by releasing numerous villains from their imprisonment.
The origin story for Ultron (performed via motion capture by James Spader) will now incorporate Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, who sees the artificial intelligence program as a way of taking pressure off himself and his fellow heroes. In the comics, Ultron was strictly the creation of Hank Pym, the scientist who also served as the first Ant-Man (and is played by Michael Douglas in that movie, due next July.)
When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.
Age of Ultron stars Downey, who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell bent on human extinction.
Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision.
Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters May 1, 2015.
How do you think the Thor characters will appear? Possibly as an end credit scene to establish the franchise’s third film? Or will Loki have a role in Ultron’s plot? What other surprises are you expecting from Marvel or would like to see?
