Ace Your Midterms and Finals With This 10-Day Exam Prep Cycle

Exams might be the most stressful part of college for a lot of people, but they don’t have to be for you. This systematic approach to preparing for exams will give you the advantage you need on test day.

Doing well on your exams isn’t about studying more, it’s about studying the right way. Tom Miller of WTF Professor suggests that you prepare for your exams the same way an athlete would prepare for a big game, and focus on the specific plays that would be the most effective. That means you need a practice schedule like Miller’s example shown above.

Use your notes to create two practice exams 10 days before your exam. Be sure to include questions that hit on the big subjects, as well as the subjects you know you struggle with. Then repeat the process over the next couple days. On the day before your midterm or final, do a short recap of everything you’ve studied, then give yourself some time to rest and relax before the big day. Don’t wait until the last day to try and cram it all in, and don’t waste your time with over-studying either. Space it all out with this schedule and it should be smooth sailing.
