Roses Are Red, Violets Are Blue, The Day Is Nearly Here – What Are You Going To Do?

Whatever kind of February 14th you’re planning, we’ve got you covered with a selection of ways to romance.

The Sweetest Thing at Basement Sate

The way to a girl’s heart is surely through sugar, and the place that best caters for this is the decadent dessert bar, Basement Sate. If you’ve yet to visit this underground establishment in Soho then you’re in for a treat – the atmosphere is seductive, stylish, and the perfect place to whisper sweet nothings. And especially for St Valentine’s Day, they have created a special pairing degustation menu, priced at £38 for two. Indulge in three mini desserts and three expertly crafted cocktails, including a divine sounding strawberry, basil & pistachio tart that is accompanied by a concoction that merges vodka, vanilla and fig. With many of the ingredients purported to have aphrodisiac qualities, don’t surprise if you leave pretty sweet on each other…

True Love at The Truscott Arms

For those not already familiar with this gorgeous pub-meets-dining-room in Maida Vale, then you’re in for a treat. The Truscott Arms is headed up by supremely talented chef Aidan McGee, the upstairs restaurant is just the right balance of cosy and stylish, with an open fire and original features. The food always focuses on the seasonal, and you can be sure that the fresh produce takes centre stage. Any foody-types or gastronomic fans will instantly be enamoured, and their Valentine’s Menu promises more delights. Crab with chilled cucumber soup and flowers start the night is a suitably fresh and innovative fashion, continuing with scallops, spring lamb, English dumplings and divine desserts. The five courses comes in at £55pp, with champagne and coffee to boot.

Starry-Eyed Set Menu at 35 New Cavendish

35 New Cavendish got our award for best restaurant experience last year, so we’re pretty sure their Valentine’s Menu will be sure to delight. The atmosphere is glamorous and sexy, the staff are absolute pros, and it’s a super date spot. What’s more the food is delicious – we’re already salivating at the thought of beef carpaccio with smoky aoili followed by wild seabass with pumpkin veloute. What’s more, the menu is only £50 pp, and includes a Valentine’s Day cocktail. Book a table now and prepare to get glam.

Lock claws with a lover over Lobster-rolls

For something a little more informal but just as tasty, head over to Lobster Kitchen. We were enamoured with their succulent and fresh seafood rolls when we visited, and now there’s the chance to share the experience with your crush. For £20 you can indulge in some shellfish sharing, and chow down on a foot-long roll filled with tender meat, as well as two sides (we recommend the Mac n Cheese – sensational). There’s also a fun Twitter competition to get involved in. Show someone you care with crustaceans – after all, you’re just a buoy, standing in front of a gill… or something like that.

Say It With Breakfast at Brew

Brew beds

Eschew dinner plans and get right to the good stuff – breakfast, that is – by booking a room at Brew in Putney. Their new Putney site has Bedouin style beds perfect to get cuddled up in, and with your own personal waiter you don’t have to worry about burning the toast or getting a top-up of fizz. Tuck into folded Burford Brown eggs with Brindisa Chorizo, or the exotic sounding Turkish Eggs, poached and served with hung yoghurt and hot chilli butter, all the while sipping on champagne. Beds are £100 to hire and include fizz, roses and a personal waiter!

Take A Beach Break with The Pig

A sandy holiday doesn’t have to mean plane trips to the Maldives – stay closer to home and experience some rustic luxury at one of The Pig hotels. We love their mixture of shabby chic and luxe-comfort, and they offer a chance to escape the city and just relax. The Pig on The Beach, located in Dorset, is the perfect respite, complete with uninterrupted coastline views and a spa to indulge in some couples massage-therapy. Nights start from £209 and there are a variety of lovely rooms to choose from.
