Employers tend to find all sorts of ways of restricting your activities after you leave the company. Watch out for a non-solicit clause in your next employment contract.
Although noncompete clauses may harm your future career opportunities, a non-solicit limits what you can do at a future employer. These clauses are more enforceable because you aren’t being told you can’t work in your chosen profession. Sometimes these clauses say you cannot hire a former coworker after you leave the company, but the clauses sometimes do not allow you to contact former customers either.
Read your contract carefully and, if necessary, either negotiate the clause out of the contract or request a different salary or benefits.
