Whoever said, “There’s no such thing as a free lunch,” clearly had never heard of Freebie.
Freebie is a mobile app that rewards its users with products, services and experiences from local businesses and brands for free. The company was started in Chicago (gotta rep my hometown), by Ben Rosenfield in September of 2012, and since then has taken off fast. And I mean fast.
In the 29 or so days that Freebie has been in the app store, it has gained thousands of users in the Chicago area, along with 200+ clients, which means tons of opportunities for freebies.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Once you sign up, Freebie asks you to connect your accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Foursquare check-ins in order to determine your social influence. Once connected, Freebie gives you a score which allows you access to certain deals, experiences, and products.
WHAT CAN YOU WIN?
Since I’m from Chicago, I’ve used Freebie before. Earlier this summer, Freebie hooked me and all my friends up with free 3-day passes to Wavefront Music Festival, which was held on Montrose Beach in downtown Chicago. Later on in the summer, Freebie gave away 3-day passes to Lollapalooza (unfortunately I wasn’t able to go to that one).
Some other things they’ve given out include a prix-fixe lunch from South Water Kitchen, a helicopter lesson at Bachman Aero, a spa day at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, a free bottle of wine at Baisi Thai Chicago on Michigan Ave, the list goes on and on.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I love getting free things. And who wouldn’t want a free bottle of wine after a long work week… or day?
