Pick any week or weekend you happen to be free – chances are there’s a yoga retreat taking place in some part of the world. The endless options for retreats in a plethora of often glamorous, often remote destinations is on the increase and demonstrates just how many people are in search for that zen holiday. A getaway that will lift their bodies and spirits, that will help them recharge with intense doses of yoga followed by just as intense bouts of relaxation in the sunshine and delicious wellness cuisine.
We recently caught up with Charlotte Hilton, who just returned from a yoga & nutrition retreat on the stunning island of Menorca, run by YOGARehab, a partnership forged by a yoga teacher (Selda Enver-Goodwin) and a naturopathic chef (Kimberly Parsons).
She gave us a glimpse of what really does sound like a heavenly retreat. “Day to day life at YOGARehab in Menorca could not have been more heavenly. Woken up with sunrise yoga, which leaves you feeling truly invigorated, gets you ready to tuck into Kim’s delicious breakfast with not a care in the world. Then it’s the tough job of getting your sun cream on and sitting in the sun by the pool, as well as selecting your music and reading material for the day. Tough choices! Walks down to the private beach cove, jogs along the ocean front, padding around the villa in your bikini and chatting to the resident cows and tortoise all make for the perfect atmosphere in which to truly switch off and let your worries and cares go.
Next appointment on the rammed schedule is Selda’s yin yoga in the early evening, the best way to wind down from your exceptionally busy day and get ready for another of Kim’s culinary delights for supper. Meals on a daily basis were a complete creative dream, and I looked forward to each one with eager trepidation. Then to bed, where I managed to get 7 of the best night’s sleep in a while, in a row. Absolute winning combination of a day, and only wish I could do that every day. But at least if I can’t, I know that I feel rested and ready to go again and hit the ground running back in London.”
Selda and Kim ran this 7 night-long retreat with the intention of bringing nourishment and transformation to its guests. “We wanted our guests to be cared for in every way. Right down to the smaller details of goody bags, and personalised quotes left on the guests’ beds halfway through the retreat. The guests are catered for in every way; physically, nutritionally and spiritually.” Kim also offers nutrition workshops during the retreat and many of the guests found this both insightful as well as educational. “Our guests’ transformation is at the heart of why we run these retreats. We feel our energies combined create a special place in which people are able to let go and find their inner peace”.
