Roma’s Alessandro Florenzi Scores, Hugs Grandma, Gets Carded

Alessandro Florenzi scored his first goal of the Serie A season on Sunday, and he celebrated by jumping into the stands to hug his visiting grandmother.

It was, he said, her first time at Rome’s Olympic Stadium, and she explicitly requested he stop by – or she might not make a return trip.

Alas, no good deed goes unpunished, and Florenzi got a yellow card for running into the stands. But despite the booking, the 23-year-old midfielder didn’t seem to get into too much trouble with his coach.

“His celebration was an emotional one,” Rudi Garcia said. “He’ll pay a fine for the booking, but I think he’ll believe it was well worth it.”

Alessandro Florenzi’s goal sealed a 2-0 win over Cagliari, keeping Roma tied with Juventus for the lead at the top of Italy’s Serie A.
