A bar with stunning views of the city – with a bit of New England style thrown in now the summer is coming. Rebecca Anne Milford didn’t take much persuading to check out the al fresco cocktails.

In Three Words: Swanky, Breathtaking, Inventive

The Lowdown: Every now and then it isn’t just a cocktail you want – it’s something that little bit special. And for a bar that delivers on drinks, concept and stunning location then look no further than Skylounge. Situated atop the Hilton Hotel, on the 12th floor, this stylish and swanky establishment offers 360 degree views of London, so that imbibers can appreciate some of the city’s iconic landmarks.

Not only does the interior boast a swish,  buzzing bar with seating for all kinds of groups (high benches to perch at, intimate booths, comfy chairs arranged around circular tables), but there is also a superb al fresco area. In the winter this was transformed into a viking vodka pop-up bar that wouldn’t have looked amiss in Game of Thrones – and now summer is here Skylounge have something else up their sleeve. From May 1st there will be a slice of Nantucket Beach Club arriving in London, offering a taste of easy Easy Coast living.

Your Plus One: Bring a friend visiting London, who will truly appreciate the stunning views on offer. When the beach is in residency then this is the ideal spot to come with that sun-worshipping pal who likes nothing better than chilling out under a parasol.

Decor and Ambience: Inside Skylounge there’s an air of a trendy London hotspot – groovy tunes play from the resident DJ at the weekend, and the glittering lights of the city create the perfect backdrop for those milling about inside. We can’t wait to see the new Nantucket beach, complete with a lighthouse, swing bench, and even retro fun like bowling and shuffleboard. The perfect place to come and while away those lazy, heat-soaked afternoons, sipping an ice cold cocktail and appreciating the skyline stretching out into the far distance.

Cocktail Highlights: The new pop-up has been created in association with Snow Queen Vodka and Lanson Champagne, and so there will be slushies and summery cocktails to really get you smiling for summer. We’re looking forward to trying the fizzy and fresh Surfside Punch, made with Camomile infused Snow Queen vodka and Lanson Champagne – ideal for quenching the thirst. The menu in Skylounge has a superb variety, ranging from the classics right through to exciting twists such as the Gingerbread Old Fashioned – warming, spicy and with a definite kick.

Something to Soak Up the Booze: The menu is a tour de force in bar food, with options like popcorn chicken with goat’s cheese, salmon mousse cones and aubergine hummus. Plus, there will be a special menu available for beach-visitors – hearty and delicious seafood snacks that bring New England to Londoners. Lobster Rolls and Lobster Mac and Cheese make an appearance – what better thing to sip with an ice cold Snow Queen Vodka Martini?

We loved the winter pop-up – attention to detail was absolutely superb, and Skylounge definitely do not do things by halves. That’s why, from May 1st, we’ll have our eyes peeled on opportunities to visit the terrace and indulge in some al fresco drinking away from the hustle and bustle of the streets. But we were also incredibly taken with the interior – as slick and stylish an establishment as any you’d find in London, with a real vibrant atmosphere and sense of fun. The cocktails are impressive, the food is generous and tasty, and it’s the perfect place to begin an evening of excitement. Fall in love with the city – and cocktails – all over again by visiting Skylounge and leaving inspired.
