Pinterest Will Support Verification of URLs Linked to Profiles

Pinterest will allow websites to verify that they own the accounts linked to their profiles on the photo-based social network, the company said today.

Users will see a checkmark next to verified domain names.

Initially, only top-level domains, like, will be eligible for verification. The process works by asking administrators to upload an HTML file to their sites.

“Most blogging platforms (like Blogger, WordPress, Tumblr) and eCommerce sites (like Etsy, Shopify, eBay) do not allow you to upload HTML files,” Pinterest said. ”We are aware that this is a limitation for many of our pinners and are working on other forms of verification.”

The move comes amid other efforts to boost the site’s security and credibility. Last week, Pinterest began allowing users to block and report other users.

The verification feature will roll out over the next few days, Pinterest said.
