Paradox Interactive has announced Knights of Pen & Paper 2, coming to PC and mobile devices on May 14. The sequel sees gamers sitting at a table, playing a pen and paper role-playing game, as they control both the party and the game master. As a virtual experience, the adventure is brought to life by changing backgrounds and real turn-based battles, as imagination becomes reality on screen.
In Knights of Pen and Paper 2, players control a party of adventurers, and can customize each before they’re added to the table. That is, the game may suggest players recruit a rocker elf paladin, but players can change the rocker to a hipster or lab rat, or turn them from a paladin to a warrior (and so on). Each choice affects the character’s stats and special abilities automatically.
While gamers begin with only a few heroes, they’ll unlock more chairs at the table over time. Each player can be dressed in class-specific hats. From there, gamers complete quests in the order of their choosing, traveling around the world while accepting the fate associated with their d20 dice rolls.
As players complete quests, they’ll encounter various monsters, and can defeat them in turn-based battles. Here, players can activate basic attacks with the weapons they’ve collected on their adventure, or can spend energy to activate special attacks. These may inflict large amounts of damage on multiple enemies simultaneously, inflict status changes on enemies, and so on.
After each battle and quest, each player earns experience points, eventually leveling up and unlocking skill points. These can be spent to unlock new abilities, or upgrade existing skills. Players also gather loot from fallen enemies, which can be equipped to various gear and accessory slots on each character.
Knights of Pen and Paper 2 will launch on iOS and Android devices on May 14. The game is also coming to Steam for PC.
