New York officials try to explain putting city in lockdown for 6 inches of snow




What was billed as potentially “one of the largest snowstorms in the history” of New York City turned out to be pretty much a dud.

The initial forecast called for up to 30 inches of snow, but now it looks like New York City won’t get more than a foot by the time the nor’easter fades away on Tuesday evening. And sure, other areas in the Northeast were hit very hard, just like the forecast predicted, but it turned out to be a rather average snowstorm in the Big Apple.

Yet on Tuesday both Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo stood by their decisions to be cautious the night before, when they brought the city to a halt and shut down schools, roads and public transportation. Read more…
