They say no two snowflakes are alike, but how many of us have ever been able to verify this with our own eyes? Through the work of Moscow-based photographer Alexey Kljatov we can see snowflakes up close and personal.

Kljatov captured unbelievable images of snowflakes on his balcony using his camera, a stool, a glass plate, a flashlight and a plastic bag. Some images are shot using his camera’s macro mode while others are are made with Kljatov’s lens zoomed all the way in. Check out pictures of Kljatov’s home rig below, or visit his blog to learn more about his process:

Though his setup don’t look too fancy, Kljatov’s photos sure do. Once he has his closeup shots of snowflakes, Kljatov adds artificial colors to make the snowflakes look more appealing. Other than that his work shows snowflakes in all their glory. Check out some photographs below, and visit Kljatov on Flickr for more.
