Keenan Thompson announces that he will leave Saturday Night Live to pursue other projects. With SNL’s 40th season on the way, no one is certain that Thompson will be a cast member for the next season.

Thompson was apparently planning to leave after season 39, but the show’s executive producer, Lorne Michaels, convinced him to stay for another one.

An SNL spokesperson came forth, denying the claims about Thompson leaving the show. The spokesperson said, “the season hasn’t even started and cast decisions aren’t made until the end of the season.”

It is reported that Keenan Thompson has no harsh feelings toward anyone associated with SNL. He is leaving on good terms, is in talks for a new show, and is moving to Los Angeles with his wife and newborn child.

If these rumors about him leaving SNL are true, we will miss “What’s Up With That”, and his character DeAndre Cole.

Thompson established himself as Saturday Night Live’s longest black cast member, a mainstay to the show since 2003. He’s the currently the oldest among the current cast too, with his 11 year tenure at Studio 8H. His humble beginnings were with Disney films, Nickelodeon shows “All That” and “Keenan and Kel”, and the movie “Good Burger”, making him a familiar face to millennials.

Here is his character “Pierre Escargo” from “All That”.

90’s children also know him for his ‘knuckle puck’ in “The Mighty Ducks” trilogy.

Thompson has new projects coming in the future, and Saturday Night Live is seeing some major changes. Darrel Hammond is replacing legendary voice Don Sardo, and now we might lose Thompson as a cast member.

When all is said and done, we know that we’re getting another season with Keenan Thompson, before he leaves for good. SNL returns this Saturday, with host Chris Pratt, and musical guest Ariana Grande.
