IFTTT Organizes And Enhances Online Holiday Shopping

Screen Shot 2013-11-27 at 11.54.17 AMIFTTT has added a selection of holiday recipes to their blog, in the hope of making Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping easier for everyone.

If you’re wondering what recipes have to do with holiday deals, that’s okay. We’ll explain.

IFTTT is an acronym for “If This, Then That”. The service allows you to create if/then functions to make your life a little bit easier. These functions are known as recipes (you can read the basics here, and learn about HTML-embeddable recipes in this post).

Okay, so you get the idea. Now, how can IFTTT enhance your online holiday shopping experience?

With IFTTT, you can check Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals from your email. You might want to be picky, though, because the more recipes you use, the more emails you’ll have flooding into your inbox (don’t say we didn’t warn you).

And IFTTT has the potential to save you SO much time — but only if you know how to use it.

Unfortunately, IFTTT is likely to make your life MORE difficult while you’re setting things up and learning the ropes. The same applies to any software or service you’re unfamiliar with, really.

Imagine getting a new, unfamiliar smartphone and immediately having to call your boss, pull up some info online and reply to an email. At the same time.

That’s pretty much how daunting it’ll be for a novice to navigate Cyber Monday deals using IFTTT.

Now, we’re not saying that you shouldn’t give it a try, because you definitely should (the service has a lot to offer, and we pretty sure it has a very bright future). But maybe wait until after Christmas. You don’t want to miss out on sales because you’ve been  busy creating IFTTT recipes.
