Day 4 at #SMWLdn: Participant Spotlight (Megan Knox)

Megan Knox

Marketing for PayPal Giving Fund UK (eBay for Charity)

Where are you from? Little Rock, Arkansas but she has been living in London for the past five years.

What do you do?

I work at the PayPal Giving Fund (also known as eBay for Charity) which helps people who use eBay and PayPal to raise funds for their favorite charities.

What are you up to at SMW?

Learning about the new trends in social media, especially how people are measuring impact. I’m interested in learning about what charities are doing with social media. I had a session this week at 8 a.m. on digital trends ran by Hotwire—which was really great—and have been learning a lot since about corporate social responsibility and using social media to make an impact.

What has been your favorite session so far?

I liked the session on how it makes good business sense to do good. We heard talks from the woman who runs the social impact marketing team at Dove talking about the campaign for real beauty and how it’s made a big business impact. The woman who runs digital campaigns for UNICEF, and how they’re partnering with big businesses, to create sustainable programs to promote children’s education around the world. It’s all been really interesting.

How long have you been using social media in your professional life?

To be honest, I’m relatively new to social media in work. I’m still learning the ropes, although I’ve been a long-term personal user of social media, so learning about it in business is a steep learning curve for me, which is why I’m here. I manage our Facebook account and Twitter feed. Why don’t you follow me @ebayforcharity and tell me how I’m doing?
