Chrome: If you use Chrome, you probably haven’t touched an actual search box in a while, instead using the Omnibox. With Chrome 29, you can try a new search interface that gets rid of it altogether.
To try out the new interface (as seen above), here’s what you’ll need to do:
chrome://flags/into the Omnibox.
- Search for “Enable Instant Extended API”
- Select “Enabled” in the dropdown box.
- Click “Relaunch Now” at the bottom of the screen.
Once your browser restarts you’ll have a new search page (as well as a remodeled new tab page). Instead of a persistent search box taking up space, you now use the Omnibox to enter or change search terms. You’ll also notice that the black bar that Google has a love–hate relationship with is gone. Instead you have a new app menu button on the right side of the page, next to your Google+ notifications.
