It feels like it’s been a while since I got complimented on my day-time footwear.
That’s not to say I wear ugly shoes, but I think the months of dull winter weather, and my fallback on hardworking yet unglamorous black boots, has meant my feet have been sadly neglected.
So, when I got admiring comments on my shoes three times in one spring afternoon, and I had only received them that very morning, it felt really, really good.
The particular pair I was rocking were the Aqua and Gold Snake ‘Reese’ from Butterfly Twists – a beautiful turquoise pump with an ankle strap and a shimmering gold toe, part of their new Spring/Summer 15 collection that has the tag #AnyTimeAnyWhere. That morning myself and a number of other bloggers from the fashion world, had been invited to an exclusive preview of the new collection. The location was the aptly gorgeous Ham Yard Hotel where, over smoked salmon muffins and delicious pastries, the desirable new shoes were showcased. We were also given the chance to preview the new videos, designed to perfectly display how Butterfly Twists are ideal for whatever occasion, whenever you want to wear a pair.
Butterfly Twists feel unique (and extremely welcome in the fashion world) in the way that they are chic, great quality, but also practical in a way many current examples lack. Noticing a gap in the market for shoes that looked stylish but could also be transported easily, four entrepreneurs left their city jobs to devote themselves to female footwear. But these weren’t high-power ladies that were tired of navigating the streets in high heels – enter the somewhat unlikely combination of Emmanuel Eribo, Frank Eribo, Mark Quaradeghini and Philippe Homsy. After pioneering a unique technology that allowed ballet pumps to fold up and slip into a handbag, and going through some essential testing, they took 50,000 orders at their first trade show, and acquired stockists in 50 countries.
We got a chance to quiz Emmanuel at the launch breakfast, and he explained the target market is the modern ambitious woman – who works hard, plays hard, and wants her shoes to do the same. They fold into each other, and are perfect for popping in a handbag. We’ve all seen the women hurrying to the office in the morning clad in a sharp suit but with neon trainers on her feet so she can dodge quickly through commuters (we might even have been that woman ourselves), but now there’s a new answer – who says heels have to be the only way to look glam?
The range takes into account all styles – and in fact this is one of the things that instantly struck me as I wandered around the room, fawning over each pair. There is truly a type for any taste. Be it leopard print, zebra or (my favourite) the uber-on-trend dalmation, then faux fur makes an appearance. Night time sparkles come courtesy of ‘Samantha’ or the gleaming ‘Vivienne’, or there’s the more office-friendly-yet-fierce ‘Lexi’, with embossed faux leather and gun metal studs. My Reese come in shades of Dusty Pink, Nude or Black and Gold, and further bright splashes of spring colour can be seen throughout the catalogue.
Alternatively there are nudes too.
And that’s not all. For the sun-seeker there are chic sandals, and for festival-goers there are Wellies that scrunch up and are incredibly light weight. What could be better for Glastonbury?! – no more lugging Wellington boots around ties to the top of a rucksack!
This is ultimately the core of the #AnytimeAnywhere suggestion, and is really two-pronged. At first I assumed ‘anytime, anywhere’ was directly referring to the fact they are transportable and can be folded up and worn whenever heels could be abandoned. But after rocking mine solidly for three days (and not wanting to change into stilettos, even in the evening) and getting so many admiring glances, I realised it actually also referred to the fact you’ll want to wear they any time, any where. Chilling at home, going to a bar to meet friends, dancing (Ah, the bliss of not staggering home clutching heels with red-raw balls of my feet!). Butterfly Twists are surely set to take the fashion world by storm… and although I know at some point I will take advantage of the fold-up feature and pop them in my handbag, for now they’re too good to keep away from the catwalk of life.
