The Syrian Electronic Army claimed hack-attacks on the New York Times and Twitter, using its own Twitter account to taunt both sites.
According to Ars Technica, the Times attack is one in a series of escalating attacks against American media. Times spokesperson Eileen Murphy confirmed via Twitter that the recent website issues, which redirected users to a Syrian server, were likely a result of a “malicious external attack.”
Shortly after this news broke, the Huffington Post reported that the SEA had claimed an attack on Twitter’s servers as well, with images of the DNS records as proof. According to The Verge Twitter also confirmed the hack but claimed that no individual accounts have been affected thus far.
