Designed between London and Ibiza, Solillas have turned a traditional Spanish shoe into the must-have buy seen in every wardrobe. Solillas has brought the Balearic heart and soul to top stores including the renowned OFFICE and the famous BOXPARK in Shoreditch where they opened their first concept store capturing the creativity and free-spirited lifestyle of The Balearics. Together with OFFICE, Solillas have also developed a premium collection only available in Selfridges. Solillas are launching a whole new range including Flatforms, Crossovers, Metallics and Fringe sandals. We interview the Founder and Directors SarahJayne Matthew and Jonathan Matthew on their inspiration the story so far.

How did you come up with Solillas?

Since spending time in Menorca as a child I have had a passion for this traditional shoe, for the quality, the look and the story that sits around it. I was convinced that with inspiration from London and its fashion forward vision and creative Balearic influence we could bring these traditional sandals back to life, so Solillas was born to do that, honoring the craftsmen and communities built around this shoe.

Can you tell us about your SS15 collection?

Our SS15 collection is our most experimental to date,We have added over 20 colourways to our Originals collection including textiles such as woven geometric patterns, frayed canvas and sports luxe inspired mesh, and evolved our style further with three new trend led silhouettes – the Flatform, crossover and fringe. We also have a number of exclusive designs especially created for our retailers, including Office, Office in Selfridges and LF Corp in Korea.

Where did the design inspiration come from?

With our base in Shoreditch, we are constantly inspired by the experimental style and cult trends around us. Our customers are part of our movement and integral to what we design, we listen to their views and embrace their vision. And of course our spiritual home of Ibiza where we spend many months each year plays a huge part in everything we do, being surrounded by bohemian life and free spirited culture.

Plan for the future

We are working on our SS16 collection where we will push our experimental styles further and take even more risks. We are adding a number of new silhouettes and textiles. We are opening a pop up store in Los Angeles and expanding our stockists range into North America, Europe and the Far East with new SS15 stockists including Urban Outfitters and Abercrombie & Fitch in the US.
