As Social Media Week continues to expand, we are striving to highlight the global nature and opportunities available to our community. As part of that, this summer we opened up our Travel Award Program with our partners Nokia. We asked you, our community, to share with us how you would bring your city and inspiration to our host cities this September.
You submitted creative responses to the challenge. But three really stood out. Today, we are thrilled to announce our Travel Award Winners:
- Event Partner: Jenna Bond
- Speaker: Thaisy Pecsén
- Participant: Scott Shigeoka
As our community representatives, we want you to get to know them a bit better, starting with New York’s Jenna Bond.
Jenna will be flying cross-country to bring her event from NYC to SMW LA to discuss how online video has become the new mainstream. She’s bringing a conversation with the hosts and producers of the most innovative and buzz-worthy web series. Together at SMW LA, we’ll look at how audiences engage with independent producers through social media, the focus of the program is a look at how web series are defining the new mainstream.
But it wasn’t just the content that made Jenna our Event Partner Grantee. She’s also incorporating an interactive social media conversation that includes live tweeting, trivia, a Vine competition for giveaways, and a way for those not in attendance to virtually engage.
“Having observed the way people remember shows from ‘I Love Lucy’ to the ‘Twilight Zone’ to the early age of MTV great programming not only tells a universal story but pushes society forward. Today, a lot of the voices that speak to what concerns youth culture, as well as the diverse new mainstream, are telling stories online that are not found on television. I love that Social Media Week is great about harnessing a community of people who creators and conversation starters. I always want to be a part of that energy, so being an event partner is exciting.” – Jenna Bond
