1. You get what you wish for, so know and define exactly what you want and make sure it is SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.
  2. Once you’ve defined it, learn how to tell a story about why you want it. Use a triangle of three things – your past experience, what future behaviours you are going to take and how it makes you feel.
  3. Create a list of stakeholders and people who could help you achieve it, even if you don’t know them.
  4. Talk about your vision with as many people as possible – especially those who might give your access to the people at no. 3 that you don’t know because you never know how someone can help you.
  5. Do something every day that moves you closer to your goal – some internet research to educate yourself more, a visioning exercise,  or whatever feeds your creativity to keep your goal active, from creating a vision board to drawing.
  6. Think outside the box. It might be that a completely crazy journey or route could take you to your goal.
  7. If you don’t meet your timeline or deadline, don’t be afraid to adjust it. Sometimes things take twice as long as we think they will.
  8. Never give up, even when you think it is impossible, tenacity and persistence – stay with it.
