Disengaged employees leave for other companies, deliver subpar work and have poor productivity, all of which take a toll on the bottom line.
It’s likely you can’t afford to waste money on employees who aren’t engaged.
What can you do?
Set up a digital engagement program, a recent survey from TechnologyAdvice recommends.
In TechnologyAdvice’s survey of 398 office-based workers, more than 70 percent said engagement software would help them perform better, and more than 25 percent said it would help them stay motivated.
Despite these findings, 67 percent of respondents said their organizations don’t use any type of digital engagement platform.
Employees want wellness programs
Thirty percent of respondents say a health and fitness program is their most preferred engagement strategy.
How can a wellness program help you regain all that lost money we discussed earlier?
The survey quotes Charles Duhigg, author of “The Power of Habit”: “Typically, people who exercise start eating better and becoming more productive at work,” Duhigg says. “They smoke less and show more patience with colleagues and family. They use their credit cards less frequently and say they feel less stressed. Exercise is a keystone habit that triggers widespread change.”
After wellness programs, employees say they’d like a points-based reward system and a progress tracking system. Perhaps surprisingly, only 14.4 percent say they’d like an internal social network.
Before you set up an engagement program, consider your employees’ preferences.
Ninety percent of 18-24 year olds and more than 80 percent of 25-34 year olds say an engagement platform would help them at work, but older employees aren’t as keen on the idea. Only 42 percent of 45-54 year olds feel they would benefit from an engagement program, and more than half of 55-64 year olds don’t believe an engagement program would benefit them at all.
