LONDON — With the UK general election edging ever closer, the political parties have been displaying their musical tastes at their manifesto launches

The Conservatives blasted Jimmy Cliff and The Spencer Davis Group at their do while Labour chose to spin Damon Albarn’s “Mr Tembo.”

The marriage of politics and music is often an unhappy affair, though. Nick Clegg’s recent dance through “Uptown Funk,” the Green Party’s boy band video, and Sky News’ reporters miming their way through the likes of “Gangsta’s Paradise” show that music and politics can, sometimes, be an ill-suited pairing.
