During Facebook’s annual F8 conference, Zuck & Co. made some exciting announcements that might change the way we use Facebook for our personal and professional lives.
1. Embeddable Video Player
As Facebook continues their pursuit to overtake YouTube as the top online video powerhouse, their announcement today is a serious step towards that feat. Now, native videos on Facebook will have an embed link to place on websites, blogs, and other online destinations. Publishers are going to have more insights when analyzing their videos too, such as statistics and data on video embeds, views outside of Facebook, and more. This also represents a possible shift in advertising, as major brands might turn their YouTube dollars into Facebook ones. Facebook still has a challenge everyday of retaining younger users, even if they are spending time on Facebook-owned Instagram. However, we might see the evolution of YouTube stars and multi-channel networks (MCN) flocking to Facebook in the near future.
2. Businesses On Messenger
Facebook wants to improve the way people and businesses communicate with each other. Businesses on Messenger can now start a conversation with a customer during the check-out process, receive updates from that business on things like order confirmations and shipping status updates, and ask the business free-form questions about the order, with the goal of receiving quick responses. The two initial partners are retail businesses, Everlane and zulily. Facebook is also planning for Zendesk support to integrate the live chat experience with Messenger
3. Messenger Platform
Facebook’s Messenger Platform will start enabling developers to easily build apps that integrate with Messenger with a focus on GIFs, photos, videos, audio clips and more built within the app. Users have the option to install the new plugins within Messenger, and by simply sharing a new type of GIF with a friend, he or she will be prompted to install the same plugin to make the conversation look better for both sides. Some of Facebook’s early partners for Messenger add-ons include Actin Movie FX, Meme Generator, GIF Keyboard, Imgur, Sound Clips, Dubsmash, ESPN, Pic Stitch, Giphy, JibJab, and many more.
